It happens! You come home after a night out and find that your property has been burgled or that you have a serious water leak, have lost your electric supply or can smell gas.
Here is our advice as to what to do in these emergency situations.
If your property has been made insecure due to burglary or vandalism, then you will need to use the service of a professional boarding up company. The company that we recommend is:

If you find that you have a water leak then you will need to turn off the water supply at the water stop tap. If you do not know where the water stop tap is then have a look in your Operating and Maintenance Manual (OMM) under the relevant section.
There is a label attached to your water stop tap saying “WATER STOP TAP”.
If you smell gas or think that there might be a gas leak, then you will need to turn the gas off at the gas stop tap. If you do not know where the gas stop tap is then have a look in your Operating and Maintenance Manual (OMM) under the relevant section.
There is a label attached to your gas stop tap saying “GAS STOP TAP”.
If you suspect a gas leak then please report this to the National Grid using the following emergency telephone number:

Please note that instructing a locksmith should only be used as a last resort!
